Best USB Microscope of 2016

Finding the best USB microscope or endoscope for your needs shouldn’t be a great deal, right? Yes, but what about all those technical specifications, brands, magnification power and all that stuff? How can you be sure that a certain microscope is perfect for you and the other one isn’t? Well, that is where I think this article should be useful, to help you find the one that you need, much easier and not waste your precious time wandering through the vast variety of microscopes available on the market.

Of course, you might want a fancy semi-professional microscope with a magnification power of 200X, or you just an affordable pocket microscope for fun in your free time. Luckily enough we covered all those needs expect the professional spectrum where I think I should write a whole new article since the details are more important.

What I looked for in my search for the best handheld USB microscope is quality and value for the money. I want a microscope to be reliable, made of quality materials and last but not least, not cost me a fortune. I have seen plenty microscopes that were unjustifiably expensive and cheap ones that failed after two sessions as well. What is harder to find however is a microscope that lasts long enough for the average customer to be content about the purchase.

I think I made clear what the reason for writing this article is, now we can start off with the USB microscopes themselves which in my opinion are the best.

Plugable USB 2.0 Digital Microscope with Flexible Arm Observation Stand

Coming at a reasonable price, this USB microscope is compact, good looking and more importantly, it delivers great images for what it is worth.

It comes with a magnification power of 250X and the image sensor has 2 megapixels. It can prove ideal for non-professional activities.

One very good aspect of this USB microscope is that it does not limit you to a certain operating system like other do, instead, it was designed to work on virtually every operating system. That’s a big plus for flexibility, a thing that most people look for when in search for a good USB microscope.

At the price I would consider this the best USB microscope for the money. If you think it is what you are looking for then give it a shot, I think you won’t be disappointed.

USB Microscope , Crenova UM018 720P HD 1MP CMOS and 200X

While coming with a lower resolution than the previous model, at 1 megapixel, this USB microscope is still offering great image quality and good magnification.

The positive aspect that I wish to highlight on this model is the ease of use and fast assembly. You basically take it out of the box, mount the stand, connect it to your device and you are ready to go. This can also be used as a handheld microscope, so mounting the stand is more or less optional.

The icing on the cake is that it is compatible with mobile devices so you can take it wherever you want whenever you want and see the magnified images on your mobile phone with Android or iOS. That’s pretty cool, isn’t it?

It also features built-in illumination with 6 LEDs which are adjustable in intensity. For the price I think you can’t go wrong, that is why I highly recommend this unit as the best USB handheld microscope.

OMAX LED 40X-2000X Digital Binocular Biological Compound Microscope with Built-in 3.0MP USB Camera and Double Layer Mechanical Stage

If you want a more professional USB microscope with plenty of additional features and a better image quality then this Omax microscope is a good pick.

The manufacturer says that the microscope works on Windows and Mac systems. Which is fine, although I would have liked to see broader compatibility with non-proprietary systems like Linux and such.

The images are of very good quality and the magnification ranges from 40x to 2000x. That’s is perfect for all sorts of semi-professional projects in all domains. These are also possible thanks to the high-quality lens.

A nice feature that is especially useful for biologist or anyone who wants to examine biological organisms, is the light which comes from under the stage.

It is true that it costs a little more than other microscopes in this selection but if the quality and superior results are what you need then it is worth investing into.

Carson eFlex 75x or 300x Power LED Lighted USB Digital Microscope with Flexible Stand and Base (MM-840)

If you don’t want to spend too much money on your next USB microscope I would definitely recommend this Carson model.

The thing that I like the most is the flexible leg stand. While it is easy to flex, it sturdily stays in place when needed. It is compatible with Windows and Mac systems.

While it is by no means for professional or semi-professional use, it is perfect for school, hobbies, examining banknotes and coins and basically every item you wish to see in greater detail.

The LED lights are good but nothing outstanding. Actually, if you are in a dark environment they might not be enough for delivering a quality image. This is probably the biggest inconvenience with this USB microscope.

For the quality of materials and manufacturing, I would say it is pretty impressive for the price.

Celestron 5 MP Handheld Digital Microscope Pro

What I mostly like about this microscope is the ease of use and simplicity of the design. You just plug it in, install the software provided and you are ready to go. Capture videos and take photos of the details of the items you wish to inspect. Banknotes, insects, plants and everything you can think of.

The image is not top of the line in the industry, but it is satisfactory enough for amateur applications.

All in all, this is a great usb microscope for the money.
