For a newbie, the Cricut may look like an ordinary printer, and it does; but instead of ink cartridges, it features knives. Simply put the Cricut is an electronic cutting machine for your own projects and ideas which make it easy to create tangible gifts from cool designs, like a present for your girlfriend or maybe a thank you message for your parents. The possibilities are endless; your creativity is the only limit.
There are lots of other companies which create all sorts of cutting machines which resemble the Cricut models but the majority of people go with the Cricut mainly due to the following major advantages:
1. It is incredibly easy to use because it offers an intuitive online platform through which you can configure it, upload your own models and chose from a vast selection of free designs. Simple as that, connect to the Cricut site, log in and start cutting. No drivers needed.
2. It has a very clean layout without any complicated buttons or ugly wires hanging out like you may see on other brands.
3. Efficient and fast. The cuts will take roughly as long as a slow inkjet print depending on the complexity of the design. When you think of the hassle and the amount of time you lost using scissors to cut the materials, the advantages of the Cricut become easy to see.

Do you want to get your crafting ideas to a whole new level by automating the whole cutting process? Then the Cricut Air is one of those items that you definitely need. From birthday invitations to creative and inspired gifts and decorations, the Cricut Air will empower you to become a small everyday creator.
The Cricut Explore Air is at the date of publishing this article, the best among all Cricut models and at the same time most expensive. At first glance, you may think that the price of the main unit is everything you will pay to get rolling but that is not the case since you will have to acquire some extra accessories which are actually kind of pricey. To get the most of your Cricut, you will have to buy stuff like a Deep Cut blade, or a stylus. Also, add up the cost of the materials you will cut. That is to give you a hint on what you will actually spend to get it up and running because most don’t think of these details and feel a little disappointed when they have to pull extra money to make their Cricut truly functional.
The main difference between the Cricut Explore Air and the Explore One is the wireless capability. In other words, to upload models and operate the Explore One wirelessly you will have to buy a separate Bluetooth adapter which is around $50. Another difference is the cut and write, or cut and score in one step feature that is only available in the Air model; however, I do not consider this to be a significant inconvenience. Apart from these, the two models are exactly the same.
Naturally, the first question which comes in the buyer’s mind is: “What are the materials I can cut?” I would say that basically any material which you felt comfortable to craft by hand or you know that can be crafted by hand is suitable for the Cricut. From paper and vinyl to different types of fabrics the Cricut will empower you to use your imagination regardless of the material you wish to use.
Think of this cutter as a regular printer. Is it easier to write a ten-page essay by hand or use a printer? The answer is obvious and Cricut made the process of “printing” so fun, that you will ask yourself why you haven’t found it earlier.
Using the appropriate accessories, the Explore Air can cut a card for example and write a personalized message where you want it to, in only one step. Also clean and small cuts are not a problem since the machine uses patented precision blades.
Have you had enough of scissors and inaccurate cuts coupled with hours of lost time? Then look for the Cricut Air since it might just be a perfect match for your crafting needs.
As said before the Explore One is very similar, almost identical to the Explore Air. The only two downgrades are the lack of wireless capabilities which can be fixed by a separate Bluetooth adapter and the cut and write in only one step function. Other than that they are pretty much the same.
The thing you will love after you craft your own creation is the reaction of your friends and family when you tell them that you made it yourself. The word will spread and you will rapidly become that cool creator everybody loves. This can also offer you a flying start to your career as a professional craftsman / craftswoman if you plan to become one.
The smart dial on the side is pretty much the only button that lets you physically configure it by quickly selecting the type of material you work with or select a custom mode that will let you set the parameters of your material in the online software. There are a large variety of materials supported and the custom mode lets you more or less set whatever values you want unless the thickness of your material does not exceed 2 mm.
As you may already notice the simplicity is one of the key features of a Cricut machine and the Explore One is no exception. Coming with an online platform which can be accessed by any of your favorite devices like a PC, smartphone or Ipad you can upload your designs fast and hassle-free.
Some may say that the online platform is kind of intrusive since the only way of uploading designs is through the cloud, therefore, Cricut would theoretically have access to all of your designs. I do not say that this is not possible but just think about the fragility of this theory. A company like Cricut with tens of thousands of different customers has, at least, a number of hundreds of thousands of designs uploaded to their platform, so I highly doubt that Cricut, a legit company has paid employees that spy on their customers.
All in all a great electronic cutting machine which can save you a lot of your precious time.
The Cricut Expression is an older version in the Cricut series. Due to this fact, the machine comes at an affordable price and can still be a good companion if you are not too picky on some topics. Yes, it has an older look (but that is only because you have a comparison term), as well as a complete lack of wireless transfer of models, but think of the good parts too, it comes at a smaller price than the newer versions and still offers the features which can save you a lot of time and money when compared to traditional scissors cutting.
Many people compare the Circuit Expression with the Silhouette Cameo and opinions are fragmented on which is better. In a nutshell, I could say that the Cricut is an overall better choice for everyone who is interested in arts and crafts or for those who do not have a PC or do not like to use one. The Cameo Silhouette, on the other hand, is a better overall choice for those who want greater freedom in choosing the exact shapes of the cuts. There is no defined winner in the end but as a personal choice, I would go with the Cricut Expression.
If you thought that the first two Cricut models were practical, think again. The Cricut Mini comes with nearly the same functionalities as its bigger siblings yet at half the size. It can cut various materials up to 8.5 by 12 inches without making any compromise on the precision and cleanliness of the cut.
The main quality of this Cricut model is as you may already notice, the size. It is considered to be one of the most practical electronic cutters on the market due to its unbeatable size / cutting capabilities ratio. Worth mentioning is the new quiet technology for use when the environment does not allow it, like during the sleeping hours in your home.
Need ideas for your next craft? The Cricut design platform features a lot of free designs and ideas for your next project which you can use to create all sorts of creative gifts or whatever you can think of. Your imagination is the only limit. Celebrate the important moments in your life, make a gift for a loved one, personalize your workspace or home, or simply have fun by creating things by yourself. All of these are possible due to the new and improved Cricut mini which made life easier for thousands of DIY enthusiasts around the world by eliminating the long and painful process of cutting the materials.
Finally, if you want a lightweight, small and practical Cricut model which does the job just fine, then the Cricut Mini is definitely for you.
